EMG Tests
Electrodiagnosis is a relatively new medical test which can objectively identify nerve problems and /or muscle problems by means of Electoromyography - EMGs.
It is usually necessary to help evaluate back pain, neck pain, slipped discs, fibromyalgia, carpel tunnel syndrome, numbness, weakness, etc. Electromyography (EMGs) can identify muscle diseases which include myopathies, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, etc.
This test can tell your doctor if there is any injury present. We can identify exactly where this injury is occurring and the extent of this injury. It can provide your doctor with a valuable numerical means to follow you progress and decide on the best course of treatment. It can predict your recovery potential.
An EMG is often more helpful than an MRI. An MRI is a static picture. It looks at your bones, ligaments and disc's at one moment in time. An EMG is a dynamic test. It tells you how your nerves and muscles are actually working. You can have a nice looking discor nerve on MRI but still have pain. Only the EMG will tell you if that nerve is working propberly.
Our EMG testing:
- is painless because we use the newest computerized equipment
- uses only small computerized needles
- is a mid range procedure and covered by most insurance companies
- may be repeated
- requires no fasting or decrease in activity
- is essential in properly diagnosing nerve and muscle related pain and dysfunction.
